Houston is giving us a little bit of everything this weekend, from astronauts and baseball to theater, classic cars, live comedy, and one of the Heights’ favorite summer nights. Most of Saturday will be very hot, so indoor plans, early starts, and evening outings are all good choices.

◆ Sunday: A possible early shower, followed by clouds and sunshine. The high should reach about 96, with a low near 79.

Astronaut Days

Friday and Saturday, included with general admission

Hear astronauts share stories from training and spaceflight during special Mission Memories presentations. Colonel Brian Duffy is scheduled to speak Friday, while Captain Mike Baker is scheduled for Saturday. It is an easy pick for families, space fans, and anyone looking for an indoor afternoon near Clear Lake.

Sugar Land Space Cowboys vs. Salt Lake Bees

Baseball under the lights is a relaxed way to begin the weekend. The series continues Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday at 6:35 p.m., giving you three chances to catch a game in Sugar Land.

The Importance of Being Earnest

The National Theatre Live presentation brings Oscar Wilde’s comedy to the Brown Auditorium screen. The filmed production runs 170 minutes and includes a 15 minute intermission, making it a cool indoor choice for a hot afternoon.

Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live: Glow N Fire

Toyota Center, 1510 Polk Street, Houston
Saturday and Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Tickets start around $27

Monster trucks, stunts, and arena sized action make this one of the weekend’s big family choices. A separately ticketed preshow experience may also be available for guests who want a closer look at the trucks.

White Linen Night in the Heights

West 19th Street between Yale and Ashland, Houston
Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m.
$20 general admission, free for children age 12 and younger

Wear white if you feel like joining the tradition, then spend the evening browsing more than 50 artisan vendors, listening to live music, and visiting local shops and restaurants. The event welcomes families and dogs. West 19th Street will be closed to vehicle traffic, and organizers recommend using a rideshare service because there is no official event parking.

Movie Night on the Lawn: Barbie

Houston Restaurant Weeks begins Saturday, August 1, and continues through September 7. Participating restaurants offer $25 brunch or lunch menus and $39 or $55 dinner menus, with part of each purchase benefiting the Houston Food Bank. These four choices spread the dining around Greater Houston.
